Why electric cars harm classic cars
11/20/2016
One by one, car manufacturers are announcing electric car initiatives. Volkswagen wants to develop and build 30 new electric models by 2025, at the cost of 30,000 jobs. A major reorientation is underway and Volkswagen wants to be at the forefront, for good reason, as it has a lot to make up for due to the diesel scandal.
When it comes to reorientation, the idea of tradition and where you come from tends to fall by the wayside. Does a manufacturer that primarily wants to offer "clean" electric cars want to be reminded of its past with more or less dirty petrol and diesel engines? After all, hardly any car manufacturer that still exists today has successfully marketed electric vehicles in the past ...
We are already seeing that manufacturers are happy to remove certain models and eras from their traditional departments and archives - they simply no longer exist.
When the electric car wave arrives, some traditional car manufacturers might come up with the idea that they would rather invest their resources in the future than in reprocessing the past. Museums will then be closed(as happened recently at Chrysler) or not opened at all. Spare parts stores for the cars of the past, which have virtually nothing to do with the cars of the new generation, are sold off or destroyed. Knowledge of the old technologies is disappearing. This will then filter through to the sales and service front, and apprentices will only be taught battery technology and electric motor maintenance (to exaggerate).
But maybe things will turn out differently ... I would be delighted!
