The two-door BMW station wagon that preceded the E30 Touring
At first you think it's nothing special, just a BMW 325ix Touring. But watch out, something is wrong. BMW presented the E30 Touring at the IAA in 1987, but the photo shown here was already published in spring 1986. And yes, it shows an E30 before the 87 facelift. And the sports estate also has two doors. Why?
There was actually the company Luchjenbroers BV in the Netherlands, which converted BMW models into sports estates in the mid-1980s as a successor to the 1602/2002-based Touring models sold from 1971 to 1974. The conversion could be considered visually successful, but at 10,500 francs (according to reports in the Automobil Revue) it was also somewhat expensive at the time. After all, it was possible to convert all 3-series models and so the three-door version was created. This could be made even sportier with an additional body kit, the picture shows such an upgraded version. However, it was also possible to have the rear of the estate fitted to the normal 316i.
The BMW version was then only available as a five-door and, as already mentioned, only after the major facelift. The official version was probably the end of the (more expensive) Luchjenbroers variant. Not too many were produced and the survivors are cherished by collectors today.
