The somewhat different NSU TT from Lombardi
At the 1970 Turin Motor Show, the Italian coachbuilder Francis Lombardi, known for the Fiat-based Lombardi Grand Prix 850( and the Abarth Scorpione) among other things, exhibited a wedge-shaped and two-tone painted sports car called the Lombardi NSU 1200 SS. The name clearly indicated the technical basis offered by the NSU TT .
The Automobil Revue wrote at the time: "Lombardi took the rear-engine models from NSU and Volkswagen and fitted them with very different two-seater fastback coupé bodies."
Well, the Lombardi VW 1600 SS and the Lombardi NSU 1200 SS were not that different from today's perspective, as they both had a radical wedge shape and thus set themselves far apart from the technical base vehicles, which were both saloons.
However, this radicalism did not lead to success, as the Lombardi NSU 1200 SS remained a one-off and it is more than uncertain whether it survived. A pity, really, because today it would have looked great at a Concours d'Elégance ...
