Classic pearl of the future - VW Corrado

In 1988, Volkswagen presented a new coupé that actually had an ancestor and a successor. With 160 hp, the VW Corrado showed some sports cars, including the Porsche 944, the electrically extendable rear spoiler. A specialty of the Corrado was the G-charger of the G-60 models, with which the power was increased in a similar way to a supercharger, although the concept had in principle already been patented in 1905.
From 1991, the sporty Volkswagen was also available with a VR6 engine with up to 190 hp. Auto Express magazine selected the VR6 Corrado as one of the 25 vehicles you should drive once in your life.
Visually, the extensively equipped Volkswagen - ABS, power steering, heated exterior mirrors were always included - did not appeal to everyone, but overall the shape has actually aged well.
By today's standards, the Corrado is relatively light, but back then the 1.2 tons were comparatively heavy for a 4.03-metre-long and 1.67-metre-wide coupé.
Even back then, the Corrado won many hearts and tuning enthusiasts also knew how to refine and improve many of its features.
Over 97,000 units were built in the seven years of production, so it was not a real rarity in those days, despite the not exactly popular prices. But the ravages of time have already taken their toll and today the Corrado is already one of the rarest cars on the road, or when was the last time you saw one?
Prices are still reasonable today, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to buy unmodified and original Corrados with a manageable mileage.
