Not driving is worth it, isn't it?

The British auction house "Classic Car Auctions CCA " will be auctioning a 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS 500 on December 3, 2016, which has been estimated at £ 60,000 to £ 70,000. Converted, this would be EUR 70,000 to 82,000 or CHF 75,000 to 88,000 - a proud price for a visually and technically upgraded family saloon.
But the RS 500 is and was a rarity. Of the total of 5545 Sierra RS Cosworths, 500 were converted into RS500 Cosworths at Tickford. All of them were right-hand drive and had an engine that was not more powerful, but more extensively prepared for racing, as evidenced by the revised oil and cooling system, the improved fuel pump, the larger intercooler and the more massive turbocharger. This was complemented by aerodynamic improvements to the bodywork. All of them were supposed to be black, but 56 white and 52 moonstone blue RS 500s were also built. The car was only intended for the British market, as this was where there was the greatest interest in such vehicles.
Number 451 was built in 1987 and was white. The first owner sold it back in 1988 with around 2000 miles on the clock. The second owner only used the special car sporadically and emigrated to the USA in 1995. The Sierra was stored until the year 2000. The car was then to be registered in the USA, but this was not possible. It was therefore decided to bring the RS 500 back to the UK and sell it there. The car now has around 20,000 km (12,000 miles) on the clock, has been carefully restored where necessary and should now be in perfect condition.
It remains to be seen whether all this will be enough to take so much money out of the bidders' pockets on December 3, 2016, but for the owner, at any rate, giving up driving seems to be worth it. However, he will probably miss out on a lot of driving pleasure that the car, which was designed for Group A racing, certainly offered.
