Navigation device over 50 years ago

Today we can hardly imagine driving to an unknown destination without entering it into the navigation device, but 30 years ago such a device was still science fiction for most people.
Ford, however, came up with a solution over 50 years ago that looked very similar to today's navigation systems.
The 1964 Ford Aurora concept car had a device installed that could display a map that automatically shifted according to the vehicle's position.
Automobil Revuedescribed the new device and the other futuristic instruments as follows: "Around the driver's seat, a number of instruments pointing strongly to the future are displayed. These include a radar device that warns of blocked roads, an instrument that shows the position of the vehicle on a specific route on the map, an automatic system that keeps the driving speed constant even on inclines without the driver's intervention (and only stops working when the brakes are applied) ..."
So what Ford came up with over 50 years ago is pretty much the same as what we find in our cars today, but half a century ago it took quite a bit of ingenuity to imagine such things. Or who thinks they are capable of imagining the interiors of the cars of 2065?
More pictures of the Ford Aurora can of course be found in the Zwischengas picture archive.
