New chance for the gas guzzlers?
Cars of the seventies and early eighties were known to be quite wasteful with fuel. A Ferrari 512 BB could easily consume more than 20 liters per 100 km and even a Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL 6.9 felt more comfortable with a generous supply of fuel, not to mention the American "muscle cars".
With fuel prices easily approaching two euros (or francs), some classic car fans probably thought twice about whether they really wanted to do this. Filling the tank of the aforementioned BB could easily cost well over 200 euros/CHF, with almost 120 liters flowing through the hose in extreme cases.
However, since petrol prices have been falling almost monthly, this has all lost its horror and the augurs are obviously predicting further reductions. So maybe it can be a liter or two more displacement after all. Perhaps we are now living in the last decade in which we can still enjoy a large-volume Chevrolet Corvette C3? Or a Ferrari 400 GT? Or a V8 from Stuttgart?
If you hesitate too long, you'll miss the moment and later regret your chic (... oh, if only I had...).
The sensible thing to do is to stick with the everyday car and buy a hybrid, economy diesel or electric car ....
