Originality where it is particularly noticeable
A classic car that is true to the original is very popular today, deviations from the original are frowned upon. A Dino 246 GT with rear-view mirrors from the 1980s is not acceptable, nor is an early 911 with wheels from later generations.
However, originality is particularly noticeable in cars that you hardly ever see as they left the factory.
One example is the Opel Manta B. Many, if not most, of the surviving Mantas are victims of more or less successful tuning efforts, wearing war paint, plastic add-on parts and a super-small, "race-like" steering wheel.
That's why we were so pleased with the truly original Manta that we were recently allowed to borrow for a driving test . It even still had the original radio in the DIN installation slot! And the original steering wheel and the original exterior mirrors and and and ...
P.S. Of course we are aware that there are other original Mantas out there. Hence our appeal: Owners of Opel Mantas (A or B) that are still in production should send us a photo of their car, then we will take the opportunity to show you some of the examples that escaped the beautification initiatives of the eighties and nineties!
