60 years MG A
07/05/2015
One of the most beautiful sports cars of the fifties and sixties bears the minimalist name "A". It was made by MG, which stands for Morris Garage. The "A" followed on from the TF, obviously the "TG" was not popular at the time and the company probably wanted to document a new beginning with a new nomenclature, as the "A" was followed by the "B". There was even a "C", but "D" and "E" were left to the colleagues from Coventry.
The MG A was presented in September 1955, so it is now 60 years old or young.
In fact, it was given a modern body design at the time, a break with the TD and TF models, which still looked a little pre-war.
No technical experiments were made, which the new sports car rewarded with reliability and low maintenance costs.
Just over 100,000 units were produced and 95% were exported, which was also a record for the British car industry at the time.
And today? The shape is still convincing today, the technology is also manageable for classic car beginners. That's why the compact roadster (it was also available as a coupé) is popular and a frequent guest at classic car events.
Here's to the next 60 years!
We have already published several reports on the MG A, such as a driving report on a 1961 model, a face review, an article on a coupé with a supercharger and a historical test report. Happy Reading!
