Restomods should not receive classic car privileges (Question of the week)
03/20/2017
The trend is spilling over from the USA to us. Old cars that have been upgraded with modern parts so that they still partly look like the original, but are cheaper to maintain and faster and safer to drive on the road thanks to modern technology, are called restomods. Of course, these are no longer true classic cars, as they are too far removed from their original condition for that. The modifications range from more modern wheels to completely new powertrains and chassis from later vehicle generations.
The question is, of course, whether such modified cars should continue to enjoy the privileges of classic cars, i.e. H license plates and veteran registration. This question of the week was put to Zwischengas readers. And their verdict was clear.
60% of the approximately 260 Zwischengas readers who took part are against restomods being given an H license plate or veteran registration, as this should be reserved for classic cars that are true to the original.
However, 39% are flexible. Of these, 11% are in favor of classic car privileges without restriction, while 26% make this dependent on the extent of the modifications. Fake wheels might get a pass, but an engine that is 20 years younger would probably not.
The result, presented graphically, is as follows:
The next question of the week is already underway . This time, the aim is to predict which of five classic vehicles is likely to achieve the highest increase in value over the next few years.
And of course you can still read all the previous results of the "Questions of the Week" in the corresponding topic channel.
