Tuning vehicles and tuned sports cars as an investment?
Nowadays, we are increasingly coming across classic cars in which the original condition does not correspond to the standard vehicle, but has been significantly altered by the activities of representatives of the tuning industry at the time. In some cases, these were factory modifications, as was the case with the Porsche 911 Turbo Flachbau , which was built by Porsche.
However, the heroes of the time were independent companies that fulfilled almost every wish for customers. One of these companies was Gemballa, which built the Avalanche (pictured above), a very special flat-bodied Porsche Turbo in the 1980s. The prices of these vehicles were often well over DM 200,000, which naturally raises the question of whether this investment was worthwhile for the buyer.
Today's Gemballa GmbH is convinced that it was, as it writes: "For more than three decades, dream cars from Gemballa have been providing their owners with plenty of driving pleasure and visual fascination. Almost all the vehicles ever built still exist today and are cherished, cared for and driven by collectors and car fans from all over the world. This includes the good feeling of having made a good long-term financial investment."
Due to the exclusivity and the fact that these sports cars were largely independent cars, a Gemballa, bb or even RUF Porsche would be worth significantly more many years later than its standard factory equivalent, but the question is whether there is a sufficiently large market for these vehicles.
At Bonhams in Paris, at any rate, nobody wanted to pay enough for a rare flat-bodied Porsche 930 Turbo without folding headlights.
Perhaps classic car buyers are simply not yet ready for the tuning nostalgia wave ...
