Swiss racing and the book about it
12/21/2014
The 21st edition of the unique European book - with an impressive 374 pages - about the Swiss racing scene, the only country with a circuit ban and without its own race track, was presented last Tuesday evening.
Young and old from the entire Swiss motorsport scene were in attendance. As always, Stefan Lüscher and his team have created a work for the moment and for the future. Peter Mattli, once successful in the Porsche 907 at Le Mans, aptly said to former F1 driver Jo Vonlanthen: "Jo, if there had been a book like this in our day, we would certainly still be driving today!"
For once, no Formula 1 car graces the cover. Instead, the LMP1 Toyota of world champion Sebsatien Buemi. What a fantastic year from a Swiss perspective in the WEC! Sébastien Buemi became world champion, Marcel Fässler topped the podium for the third time in the 24-hour classic at Le Mans and Neel Jani won the final race in Sao Paulo, clinching the first victory for Porsche after their comeback this year.
There are 12 pages dedicated to historic racing in the 2014 yearbook (7 pages on mountain and race tracks and 5 pages on rallying). There was a lot going on last season. Not only in Monaco and Le Mans were there a number of Swiss participants in the international fields, various national events also enjoyed great popularity. Whether Lignières, Arosa or Michaelskreuz, all these events clearly show that there are still many people who are passionate about motorsport. Like a lone plant in the desert, there are always signs of (motorsport) life in a country where some would prefer to ban cars altogether.
More about the book can be found in the announcement on Zwischengas.
