Lüscher's life's work
12/19/2015
The fact that motorsport is one big family was demonstrated once again on Thursday evening in Belp (BE). Stefan Lüscher, who is suffering from a serious illness, presented his 32nd book on the Swiss racing scene, which is now coming to an end, together with Edi Engelberger.
Edi Engelberger had to announce that this 32nd volume would unfortunately also be Stefan Lüscher's last book. However, the book series will live on and be handed over to other hands in March 2016. Stefan truly deserved the long and strong applause from the numerous "family members" of Swiss racing.
Once again, it takes almost 400 pages between the two book covers to comprehensively document a review of the Swiss racing scene. Even without world championship titles, some Swiss drivers were once again very much in the limelight this year. In the sports car category in particular, two Swiss drivers fought for the title right up to the last race. Neel Jani and Marcel Fässler were only narrowly beaten by the Porsche of Australian ex-F1 Red Bull driver Mark Webber and his two colleagues Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard. The duel between Fässler and Jani in the first race at Silverstone can be described as unique and almost epoch-making from a Swiss perspective. In the lap-long duel at the very highest level, they drove more side by side than behind each other.
Sebastién Buemi missed out on his first Formula E title by just a single point. The Brazilian Nelsinho Piquet became champion after a thrilling battle with 144 points.
Several pages were also devoted to historic motorsport. The most outstanding man this year was certainly Bruno Weibel, who won the European title in the FIA Formula Junior Championship in his Lotus 20, the ex-car of the legendary Jo Siffert.
And there were many people connected with the historic racing scene on site, such as Philippe Siffert and Max Welti ...
... or Fredy Amweg and Hanspeter Kaufmann.
Jo Vonlanthen and Max Nötzli (former editor-in-chief of AR, later President of Auto Schweiz) also made sure they attended.
The 32nd volume of the book also belongs on every motorsport fan's shelf. It is not only a useful reference work, but can also make a long, cold winter evening much shorter.
The zwischengas team wishes Stefan Lüscher and his wife all the best and much strength for the future.
The Aktiv publishing house, with Edi Engelberger at the helm, deserves great credit, as it has been offering its great support to the comparatively small niche of Swiss racing for years and has supported a book project that has its justification without making huge professional claims.
The book with 390 pages in 21 x 26 cm format with over 700 pictures is available for 65 francs from the publisher Aktiv-Verlag, 6370 Stans (041 619 15 72) or online and in bookshops.
