Once upon a time there was the Bayernring ....

On April 14, 1977, the "Bayernring" project was presented in Lautershofen. A race track including a sports and leisure center was to be built.
The plans included an outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, a sports field, a mini golf course, a children's playground, a fitness trail, an open-air theater, an eight-hole golf course and a traffic kindergarten.
The heart of the project, however, was a 3.8 km long race track with 14 bends and a maximum height difference of 50 meters. The track was to allow races up to and including Formula 2, Formula 1 was excluded. The main purpose, however, was to be used as a driving safety center.
Hans Joachim Stuck and his wife Bärbel were also present at the presentation and were impressed.
But opposition quickly arose. Environmentalists were up in arms and attempts in the following years were not crowned with success. The opponents even documented themselves with their own website" No to the Bayern Ring" and the first attempt was apparently followed by four more, all without success.
If it had been about a football stadium, then perhaps the facility would already be built today ...
