It's cool and tight at the Ennstal Classic 2012
07/13/2012
The 20th Ennstal-Classic 2012 is already one day old. The Stoderzinken mountain stage is already history. After a thunderstorm during the night, the temperature dropped by around 10 degrees Celsius as expected.
The morning was foggy and wet. The forecast clearing for the afternoon failed to materialize.
For once, the first third, which included all the pre-war vehicles, was lucky and was able to drive the entire 403 km home practically dry. The younger vehicles that started later had to fight their way through heavy rain twice.
Worse was the cold that set in overnight, which made it a bit difficult for the drivers in the open vehicles on the passes at over 1500 meters above sea level. And some were unlucky, such as Rudi Roubinek, whose gearbox in the Porsche 911 gave up the ghost on the "Ring", or Marc Lieb, when the fuel in the works Porsche was not enough for the planned number of laps.
It was close at the top of the standings, with only a few points separating the first-placed drivers ...
