Like a glimpse into the past - Historic Formula 1
07/09/2012
The historic F1 championship is open to cars with a displacement of up to three liters and is contested with original F1 cars built at the time.
The cars must be in their original condition and may only run on specified tires. They are divided into four classes:
- A Racing cars before 1971
- B Racing cars after 1971 without ground effect
- C Ground effect racing cars after 71
- D Racing cars with a flat underbody.
Points are awarded for the first 6, as before with 9-6-4-3-2-1, plus an extra point for the fastest race lap in each class.
The three-liter formula was introduced on January 1, 1966 and lasted until 1985. The famous V8 Cosworth three-liter engine made its debut in Zandvoort in 1967 in a Lotus and was also used very successfully by other teams in 1968.
The current historic F1 has been taking place since 1994, partly as part of modern racing events and partly at historic racing events such as the AVD Oldtimer Grand Prix.
The leading man in 2012 is the Spaniard Joaquin Folch, in a Brabham BT49 prepared by the Swiss Fredy Kumschik, which Nelson Piquet once drove.
It is a pleasure to see and, above all, to hear these old cars!
