Super bargains at the RM auction in London yesterday
10/27/2011
It must have seemed like Christmas to some. In the RM auction in London, which lasted over six hours, several vehicles were sold for well below the estimated price.
One lucky buyer was able to acquire a 1958 Lister-Chevrolet 'Knobbly' racing car in excellent condition for £ 177,500 (before surcharges/taxes), which RM had estimated at £ 460,000 to 590,000 . In euros, that's always around 204,000, in CHF 250,000, but that's not much compared to other Lister sports cars on the market.
The bidder got off really cheaply with the 1947 Chrysler Windsor Club Coupé, only £ 8,000 was enough (estimated price £ 25,000 to 32,000) to win the bid.
A whole series of other vehicles were sold for far less than the estimates, which were actually quite moderate, but the opposite also occurred. An Avions Voisin C11 Cabriolet from 1927, for example, achieved 214% of its estimate. The most expensive car was a Ferrari 250 GT LWB Tour de France from 1958, which reached £ 2,000,000.
The full results from yesterday are published in a detailed article.
