Fiat 850 - model series for all needs
04/04/2011
In 1964, Fiat launched the 850, a slim sedan with a rear engine. Our picture shows a beautiful contemporary advertising illustration.
Technically, the new design was based on the Fiat 600, but thanks to a larger and more modern body, the Fiat 850 offered more space, comfort and performance.
In 1965, you had to put 5,975 francs (around 4,950 DM in Germany) on the counter for the 850 saloon in Switzerland, which was around 700 francs less than the price of a VW Beetle.
The compact car was capable of a top speed of almost 130 km/h and used less than 8 liters of petrol per 100 km. This, the low maintenance costs and the sporty handling made it a sales success, which ended in 1974 after around 2.3 million vehicles had been built. However, this success was also largely due to the even sportier Fiat 850 Coupé and Spider derivatives. A larger report on this will soon appear on zwischengas.com.
