The other Opel GT
02/23/2023
As is well known, the Opel GT was built from 1968/1969 to 1973. Although Opel itself presented a successor, the "GT 2", at the IAA in 1975, it was never built.
The Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Coggiola showed a possible successor as early as 1973, which was quite attractive to look at. The design is said to have been created by Trevor Fiore.
The cockpit was also well thought out and, thanks to the tailgate, the GT from Coggiola would certainly have been much more suitable for everyday use than the original. The muscle-boosting manual opening of the folding headlights was also dispensed with. However, series production did not take place. The pictures from back then can of course also be found in the Zwischengas photo archive. There are also photos of the Opel GT 2 there .
Incidentally, the same company had already presented a counter-proposal to the Alpine A310 in 1972, which at least shone as a model in the wind tunnel with a very low drag coefficient, but also did not lead to a production model.
