The scourge of the entry regulation

Sometimes you are simply in the right place at the right time. Like the photographer who captured a convoy of 13 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadsters flying in formation from a highway bridge near Stuttgart. The reason for this unusual accumulation of Swabian super-lightweight cars was a group of 72 Americans who personally collected their brand-new Daimler from the factory in the summer of 1959 and transported them to the port.
But not only the photographer, but also the driver of the Opel Rekord in the left-hand lane must have been aware of the special nature of the situation and got everything out of its maximum 1.7-liter displacement. The opportunity to overtake more than a dozen of the 215 hp super sports cars at once is something that no P1 driver is likely to get again so soon. Especially not once the Mercedes engines had been run in.
