A rarity
02/22/2023
Of course, the Opel Rekord D was not a priori a rarity. After all, over 1.1 million units were produced between 1971 and 1977.
But here we are looking at a three-door Caravan with a 1900 engine in red. Hardly a handful or two of these are likely to have survived.
In any case, the estate car is a dying breed, the SUV is killing them off. And estate cars with only two side doors but a mid-size format have probably not been around for quite a while.
The chances of estate cars surviving were already poor in the past. They were mostly workhorses that served as tools for tradesmen or salespeople and then had to transport the family at the weekend. They were not spared, and sooner or later they usually ended up in the scrapyard.
Not so this red Opel Rekord ... but that's another story and will be told another time ...
