Emma Peel's Lotus Elan is for sale
We have reported on this car before, as it is perhaps one of the most famous cars ever used in a television series. Emma Peel, played by Diana Rigg, initially drove a white Lotus Elan from series 2, but was then given a blue-metallized Elan from series 3 for the colour-produced series 5 and 6 of the TV series "The Avengers" ("With umbrella, charm and bowler hat").
This very Elan , which the television company gave to Diana Rigg at the time and which the actress apparently hardly used because she didn't like driving, will now be auctioned by Silverstone Auctions on February 25, 2023 on the occasion of the Race Retro auction.
In its entire life, the Elan only covered a few kilometers on the road (but all the more in aircraft bellies and shipping containers) and spent most of its time in museums and collections. Now, freshly restored as part of the "Piddington Collection", it is set to find a new owner for a modest GBP 80,000 to 120,000. Incidentally, the new owner will not only receive a car, but also various memorabilia and a Corgy Toys 1:43 model car.
And the Peel Elan is not the only Lotus Elan sports car in this auction.
In fact, a total of eight Lotus Elans will be auctioned, including cars that once belonged to Jochen Rindt, Ron Hickman, Peter Sellers, Rob Walker and Keith Duckworth. It will be interesting to see whether the cars of the film actors will fare better than those of the racing greats.
