Owners of classic cars do sometimes drive their classic cars to the limit (question of the week)
We can all remember as children how we judged cars by the last number on the speedometer. Top speed was also an important value in the car quartet, as it meant that you could win with the Porsche against the American car with the higher engine capacity.
Today, most modern cars are limited to 250 km/h, and even some small cars hit the speed limiter. Only hyper sports cars measure themselves against their top speed and hardly anyone drives them on normal roads. And if they do (and shoot a video), then the police follow in their tracks.
But let's move on to the old car, which is now 40, 50 or 60 years old. The top speed mentioned back then hardly seems scary any more, rather the concern for the classic vehicle reminds us to step on the gas much earlier, doesn't it?
We wanted to find out more with the question of the week " Do you drive your classic car to the limit?".
And lo and behold, 16.9 percent of the more than 460 respondents use the full power of their old car and regularly bring it up to top speed.
42.5 percent have already driven the car to the limit, but only to see what is possible.
28.9 percent would never push their old car that hard and therefore never drive it to the limit.
8.7 percent would like to, but have not yet done so, perhaps because the local speed limits do not allow it.
And three percent could not find themselves in any answer.
This means that almost 60 percent of people do use the top speed of their classic car at some point. That is more than one would have expected.
