This makes the result of a Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4 from 1999 all the more surprising, as the car achieved a whopping USD 100,499 on the newly launched online auction platform "The Market" (by Bonhams) in the USA. This is all the more astonishing when you know that the estimated price was set at a comparatively modest USD 15,000 to 25,000.
However, it must be said that the coupé on offer was the 320 hp six-speed version and the car was practically new with 168 miles on the clock. In any case, it was worth a long and fierce virtual bidding war to the buyer, which ultimately led to a record result.
For "The Market" platform, which was only launched in the USA last month, this result was a successful debut and proof that the classic car scene is apparently now ready for purely online auctions.
