Just a motor?

A headline like this, which we recently saw on the website of a major car magazine, would probably have raised eyebrows 20 or more years ago: "Up to 740 km range thanks to just one engine". The emphasis was on the words "only" and "one". (In the title above, the word "one" would have been emphasized accordingly ...)
The related article was about a variant of the Kia EV6, which now apparently gets more range out of the batteries thanks to the omission of the front motor (and the additional drive of the front wheels). So far so good, obviously in the era of electromobilization we are used to several motors per car.
Decades ago, of course, things were different, although there were always vehicles with more than one drive motor. These were mostly racing cars, which thus achieved twice the horsepower (and usually also all-wheel drive).
But two engines were also available in smaller doses in series production, such as the Citroën 2 CV Sahara ( see picture above). However, the idea of installing several drive units in one car did not really take off at the time of the combustion engines...
