Don't always believe everything!
04/27/2021
Yes, you don't always have to believe everything, this also applies to contributions on Zwischengas. Where work is done, mistakes happen, that is and will always be the case. But we recently did a little test to see how closely our reports are read. When we portray a car, the small improvements quickly come from the people who know exactly this type of car inside out. This is exactly what the zwischengas.com website thrives on: nothing is engraved for eternity, improvements or additions can be made at any time. But now we wanted to check whether comments or other feedback are also received for an article about people...
Do you remember this picture?
The picture above is from a recently published blog. We deliberately included an error in it. And after exactly five days, we received a comment from our reader "SE" that this is not Schuppan, but van Lennep. That's right, of course, and congratulations!
Gijs van Lennep, born on March 16, 1942 in Aerdenhout, drove eight races in F1 from 1971 to 1975 (Stichting Autoraces Nederland 1971, Williams (ISO) 1973/74 and Ensign 1975) and scored two world championship points (6th in both the 1973 Dutch GP and the 1975 German GP). In 1971, he then won the 24 Hours of Le Mans together with Dr. Helmut Marko in the Porsche 917. They set a new distance record of 5335.313 km, which was only beaten by 75 km in 2010 by the Audi R15 TDI with Mike Rockenfeller, Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas. I know, the comparison is obviously flawed, as the conversion with the two chicanes on the long "Hunaudières straight" was added.
In 1976, his last active year, he won the classic for the second time together with Jacky Ickx in a Porsche 936 and two years earlier (1974) he finished second overall on the podium with Herbert Müller in a 911 Carrera RSR.
But here is a picture of Vern Schuppan: from left to right: Mrs. Schuppan, John Fitzpatrick, Vern Schuppan and Arie Luyendyk:
