Better the "Bildli" than the chewing gum!
When I was at school, the "Panini pictures" (a small picture) were not just of footballers. No, motorsports also made their appearance at the end of the sixties. I seem to remember that back then maybe 4 "Bildli", wrapped in a flat, pink chewing gum, cost 50 centimes. (If any of you readers remember these figures better, please correct them in the comments below this blog).
So we bought gum after gum to get the pictures and fill the album. In order to achieve the complete series of 50 different pictures, we bought many times more chewing gum and used up our weekly pocket money. In the end, things got very tight and the bartering got harder and harder. At the beginning you could get a Siffert for a Rindt and a Stewart, i.e. one for two others, but towards the end you had to give up a whopping 20 others for the extremely rare Porsche 907 with the picture number 13. But unfortunately the collection wasn't complete without it.
I still remember exactly how we stood in front of the grocery store after school, as it is no longer allowed to be called today, and swapped, bought new ones and swapped again, until after weeks the series was finally complete and we were all equipped with chewing gum for the next three years.
