Qualifying for the 2021 Monaco Historique GP
04/25/2021
Qualifying for the GP Monaco Historique took place yesterday in perfect weather and ideal conditions. All seven groups were given 25 minutes to fight for pole position, which is nowhere else as important as here in Monte Carlo. As overtaking is extremely difficult, it is best to start from the very front.
Here is the list of the front row of all seven groups:
Group A pre-war racing cars
- 1st Blakeney-Edwards Patrick Frazer-Nash 1935 2:09.087 93.06 km/h
- 2nd Trotter Christian Talbot-Lago 1939 2:11.184 91.75 km/h
Group B F1 + F2 before 1961
- 1st Fierro-Eleta Guillermo Maserati 250F 1954 1:56.127 103.44 km/h
- 2. Smith Hilliard Max Lotus 16 1958 1:57.551 102.19 km/h
Group D F1 1500cc 1961-65
- 1st Shaw Mark Lotus 21 1961 1:53.121 106.19 km/h
- 2nd Taylor Nick Lotus 18 1960 1:55.054 104.41 km/h
Group E F1 3l 1966-72
- 1st Hall Stuart McLaren M19A 1971 1:34.087 127.68 km/h
- 2nd Lyons Michael Surtees TS9 1971 1:34.399 127.25 km/h
Group G F1 3l 1977-80
- 1st Grogor Jordan Arrows A3 1980 1:31.417
- 2nd Lyons Michael Hesketh 308E 1977 1:31.604
Compared to the current races with the 110% clause, everyone is of course allowed to start here, because they have also paid. But whether it really makes sense to drive in the fastest field when you lose 30 seconds on a lap is debatable. The Italian Biamino Luciano has actually achieved this feat with the Ensign N180, with a personal best time of 2:01.476. With this time, he would only have been on pole in the field of pre-war racing cars.
