Sedan versus convertible - one (almost) always wins

Last week showed once again that limousines simply have a hard time in the market. Two Rolls-Royces were auctioned at the Gooding & Co Geared Online Auction . One was a Silver Cloud from 1961 as a Drophead Coupé, i.e. a convertible with bodywork by H.J. Mulliner. The other car was a Silver Cloud III Saloon from 1965.
They were both sold. While USD 250,000 was bid for the convertible, USD 31,000 was enough for the saloon.
Now, of course, the saloon was built in significantly higher numbers than the convertible, but such price differences are always surprising and it has to be said that you get quite a lot of car for your money with the closed four-door, especially as the car comes from many years of ownership and is well documented.
