Classic pearls of the future - Aston Martin V8 Vantage N24
10/22/2018
Just think back to the seventies. Back then, ten-year-old racing cars were sold for a pittance; today, some of these cars are worth millions. Want some examples? Porsche 904 or 906, Ferrari Dino 206 S, etc.
Some racing cars that were in use in the first decade of the new millennium are in a similar situation today. We normally dedicate the "Classic Pearls" section to production cars and not to individual vehicles, but today we are making an exception, as a rare Aston Martin V8 Vantage N24 from 2007 has appeared on the eBay auction platform .
The N24 racing cars were built in the factory's own prototype department from 2006 onwards. Exactly 15 of these cars were built at the time, all of which were given additional names. The first was called "Rose", the car with chassis number AMLVANTAGEN240011 was given the nickname "Barry". All vehicles had left-hand drive and manual transmission, were significantly lighter than the series (minus 250 kg) and had an eight-cylinder engine with a displacement of 4.3 liters and 420 hp under the hood.
Some of these vehicles were later converted for use on public roads, others disappeared. One has now reappeared. It is car number 11, which was purchased as a new vehicle by the Swiss racing team "Gentle Swiss Racing". There is an entertaining video trailer for the Chanson d'Eurovision with the racing team on YouTube.
The team fielded two of these cars and repeatedly stepped into the limelight with good results.
"Barry", i.e. number 11, was entered in 24 races and finished second overall at the Nürburgring 24-hour race in 2008, between two official works cars. There is also an official video about this.
Later, "Barry" suffered front-end damage, which ended his racing career. Although the damage was repaired, the racing car was eventually put away and only recently rediscovered in Switzerland. Since then, the car has been exported to Germany and work has begun on restoring it. Due to space problems, the owner now wants to part with the racing car, which once bore a Swiss cross on the roof. The wiring is still outstanding and some smaller individual parts also appear to be missing for completion, as explained in the sale advertisement on eBay.
Currently (October 22, 2018), the price for "Barry" is EUR 12,050, which will certainly not be enough for a knockdown. The auction will run until October 31, 2018. Of course, there is much more information about the white N24 on eBay.
At the moment, there are hardly any racing series for which the rare N24 Vantage can be used, but who knows. Perhaps in 10 or 20 years there will be dedicated Nürburgring 24-hour revival races, in which the Aston Martin would certainly be in good hands. The prices for proven racing cars with history are also likely to rise again ...
