Classic pearls of the future - Lancia Kappa Coupé
03/17/2016
The great days of the brand were long gone when Lancia presented the Kappa (or k) in 1994 as the successor to the Lancia Thema after a long development period. Like its predecessor, the front wheels were driven and the technical platform was the same as the Alfa Romeo 166, which was built in parallel. The coupé, which was presented in Turin in 1996 and launched on the market in 1997, was particularly rare. It was built by Maggiore and differed from the saloon by, among other things, a 12 cm shorter wheelbase and an independent design from the A-pillar upwards.
Just under 3300 Coupés were produced up to the year 2000, which certainly makes this variant particularly interesting from a collector's point of view.
The Coupé was particularly well equipped and offered, for example, electrically reclining seats to make it easier to get into the rear. Four, five and six-cylinder engines were available. With prices starting at around DM 75,000, the Kappa Coupé was relatively expensive, which is certainly one of the reasons for its rarity. The design, although influenced by the classic Flaminia Coupé, did not appeal to all potential buyers, which further limited the popularity of the model.
Even today, the Lancia Kappa Coupé is one of the absolute rarities on the road and its rarity and legendary pedigree secure it classic pearl status.
