Even then, it was quicker on foot, even in Lebanon. The picture shows the traffic chaos in the center of Beirut. Not everything was better in the past ... but just as bad as it is today, because even in modern times, you can hardly reach an average speed of over 10 km/h in city centers by car. And unlike in the past, this is politically desirable, because roads are being cut back and reserve capacity is being destroyed.
