When Lancia set out to conquer America
01/19/2015
40 years ago, Lancia was a proud European brand with a history of 68 years, full of innovations and successes. Only the Americans were unaware of this history, at least according to a Lancia advertisement that appeared in the United States.
Yet Lancia was not so unknown in the States, as a whole series of Lancia products had made it to the USA when they had not gone down with a steamship on the way .
Nevertheless, Lancia planned to conquer America on a grand scale in the mid-seventies with the coupé and saloon versions of the Beta model. It was emphasized that Lancia had produced cars before Maserati, Lamborghini and Porsche and had built, among other things, the first car with a V-engine, the first car with independent front suspension and the first self-supporting body.
Unfortunately, little is left of this innovative company and today the Lancias come from America to Europe as the renamed Chrysler. Who would have thought that back then?
