If it weren't for the little word "would have"
01/20/2015
If only we had had the gift, the means and the courage to buy entire parking lots back then. With the right instinct back then, we would be in possession of a gigantic fortune today.
A barn find of immense proportions was recently discovered in France. The cars will now be auctioned off in their desolate condition at the Rétromobile in Paris in February 2015 . We will be surprised to see what huge sums will be offered and paid for "chassis numbers".
If only the parking lot (or rather the cars) pictured here had been bought on 25 August 1957 during the Tiefencastel-Lenzerheide hill climb and stored in a barn. Today, it would probably be the equivalent of winning the lottery six times with an extra number, all in the right order. The Ferrari 500 Monza from Peter Monteverdi (starting number 145) alone would certainly equal or even exceed the purchase price for the entire place at the time?
Because this package would have included, among many others, a Ferrari Testa Rossa (no. 144), two Maserati 200S (no. 140, 4th car from the front), two Borgward H1500RS, as well as six different Porsches from the 356 to the 550 Spyder and, and, and ..... Any questions?
Oh yes, for the dreamers among us, the picture is of course also available in high resolution and in uncropped square (roll film) format in the Zwischengas archive.
