When tradition still carried weight in car advertising
01/29/2015
It is hard to imagine today the advertising that MG ran for its small sports cars in the USA in the mid-1970s. They were very conscious of the brand's tradition and were not afraid to show the current cars in the context of the legendary pre-war vehicles.
However, 1975 was also a good year for this, as the golden anniversary or 50 years of MG could be celebrated, at least if you didn't take history too seriously, as the company was actually founded in 1923 and the first car was presented in 1924.
In addition to the current anniversary model of the MG B, six predecessors, including the MG K3, NA Magnette, TC, A and the Old Number One, were also photographed, always in front of the same backdrop.
For the promotion of the MG Midget, the legend you can afford, the current model was combined with a pre-war version.
Other MG advertisements from 40 years ago also picked up on this theme.
