The other Cheetah
01/24/2013
When car enthusiasts hear the name "Cheetah", they think of the fast sports car from the USA that caused a sensation on American racetracks in the mid-sixties and gave the Shelby Cobras a run for their money.
But there was also a Cheetah in England. At the beginning of the sixties, you could buy a chassis and a nice body from one of the kit car manufacturers for very little money. If you were a talented craftsman, you could build a pretty open sports car with a hardtop using a suitable engine. Little is known about the background and output, but visually the result was quite convincing.
P.S. There was another Cheetah, or rather several of them, in Switzerland. In the 1980s, Charles (Chuck) Graemiger created a Group C sports car with a Cosworth DFL engine prepared by Heini Mader, among other things. And, as if all this wasn't confusing enough, Brian Shead in Mordialloc near Melbourne (Australia) also built a whole series of Cheetah racing cars in the 1960s to 1980s, mainly monoposti for Formula Junior, Formula 2 and Formula 3.
