The Renault R4 was a truly practical journeyman. Its success - over 8 million vehicles were produced - shows that Renault had hit the bull's eye with a car that was equally suitable for families, craftsmen and non-comformists.
It was presented in 1961 and the last car left the factory in 1992.
Renault also emphasized the advantages of the R4 in its sales brochure:
- Driving comfort to suit the taste of the target audience
- Economy ("Hang the breadbasket higher! It likes to fast")
- Low maintenance costs, low insurance premiums
- Compact, easy to park ("It solves traffic problems its own way")
- Interior size, plenty of storage space ("Nothing is too much for him")
These practical advantages are illustrated with appealing pictures, a pleasure to read to this day. The complete brochure can be viewed in the Zwischengas archive .
