Not at all squeamish - warning about the level crossing

Warnschild vor Bahnübergang im Jahr 1960

The warning sign at the level crossing in 1960 clearly and threateningly indicated that crossing was associated with risks.

Unguarded crossings between railroad trains and cars led to many an accident, so the authorities at the time felt compelled to drastically point out these dangers. Did it really do any good? Today, unguarded level crossings are a minority, thank goodness!
