The most famous carousel
08/11/2012
There should be no doubt, at least among motorsport fans, which is the most famous roundabout. Of course, we are talking about the banked curve, which is probably the most famous section of the Nordschleife at the Nürburgring. It is a very special piece of road. While a normal, slightly inclined asphalt surface on the outside allows average cornering speeds, you can drive faster on the inner track, which is heavily inclined and consists of concrete elements. What sounds attractive, however, is an ordeal for both driver and vehicle, as the surface is anything but flat.
The drivers of the 22nd AvD Historic Marathon, the Nürburgring Trophy and the AvD Touring Car Cup were able to see this for themselves yesterday on the occasion of the 40th AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix, which is currently underway and for once is taking place in perfect weather conditions.
Well, the individual drivers chose the most varied lines through the carousel, the more cautious ones avoided the inside lane altogether, some handled the choice of line according to the situation, the really ambitious ones threw their cars into the steep wall on every lap. It was always interesting to watch!
We will of course be reporting on the AvD Oldtimer GP in detail shortly.
