Price war between car manufacturers at the end of the fifties using the Opel 1200 as an example
The need at the end of the fifties to offer attractive automobile "packages" at low prices sometimes led to strange excesses. For example, the basic version of the Opel 1200 presented in 1959 was delivered for DM 5,675 with four 5.40-13 tires, whose load capacity was not sufficient to transport five people.
Larger tires could be ordered for DM 35, and additional extras such as padded sun visors, heating or headlight flasher also had to be paid for.
