Specials from the sixties
08/05/2011
When "specials" are discussed, reference is usually made to vehicles based on pre-war saloon or sports car chassis. Alvis, Riley, Bentley or MG are then often mentioned.
But the sixties were also a fertile breeding ground for specials. If you leaf through old issues of Automobil-Revue, you will find many examples of this. Many of the specials were created on the basis of a self-supporting chassis and a plastic body, which could be purchased cheaply at the time.
The Ivan GT, for example, was built on a 1961 MG chassis in 1965/66 and then went on sale in 1967.
The Sauter Renault Special was also to be found in an AR edition from 1967.
The Porsche 356 Carrera Special from 1963 shown at the top, which was later supplemented with newer Porsche parts after an accident and adapted to the modern era of the time, shows some similarities to the Porsche S 75 Special from 1965, which was offered in Automobil Revue in 1968.
Where have these cars gone? Do they still exist, like the Porsche 356 Carrera Special?
