When the big rain came to Schloss Dyck ...
The first day at Schloss Dyck ended for most of us in the water "ditch". Let's put it this way, the shower was turned on full blast for around twenty minutes. Exactly at the moment when the pre-war group was out and about. The teams returned to the paddock wetter than wet.
"Does anyone have a dry cigarette for me, mine are useless?" I heard a Bentley driver ask. Dutchman Kees (a Bridgestone consultant for many years in the service of F1) simply said: "Look at the heroes who are driving. Nothing would work in Formula One today!"
It's incredible how many cars have found their way to Dyck Castle Park. All the meadows are filled with classic cars. Each vehicle is neatly parked, with a cardboard box under the engine to prevent oil or gasoline from seeping into nature.
