Exciting racing programs from the past
07/12/2011
We love old racing programs. Some of our readers and fans know this too. And they occasionally leave us a program from years gone by to digitize.
There is a lot to do before such a program is online. First, each page is scanned individually and carefully, then the resulting images are edited if necessary. In a third step, the text on each page is extracted using OCR software, resulting in a PDF with text. The individual PDF pages are then uploaded to our Zwischengas in such a way that they are recognized as belonging together. The metadata is also defined in this step. For a single program booklet, this processing can quickly take one to two hours.
And how does this benefit you as a reader/user of Zwischengas?
The next time you perform a full-text search for a specific vehicle (e.g. Lotus) or driver (e.g. Dätwyler), for example, racing programs will also be found and thus even more facts and information. And above all, racing programs are exciting contemporary witnesses, not only because of the start lists, but also because of the track sketches, the excerpts from the regulations and, last but not least, the advertising illustrations.
In addition, race programs often provide a glimpse into the history of a particular event, which is also worth reading.
One example of this is the race program of the 1954 Bern Grand Prix. Just take a look, it's worth it!
At this point, we would like to thank our reader Dubs for making this rarity available to us!
If you have any racing programs from the past that you would like to see on Zwischengas, please do not hesitate to contact us!
