Even before the presentation in New York, one day earlier to be precise, the Ford Mustang had its world premiere at a party in Bern!
On April 12, 1964, the Swiss Ford General Director John Hirsch christened the brand new model with champagne in the presence of the American ambassador in the Kursaal in Bern, after several hundred balloons had risen and released the red four-seater convertible.
Some onlookers may have been disappointed by the rather conventional design of the new vehicle after the exciting mid-engined Mustang prototype that had been presented just a year and a half earlier, but the majority of the public immediately took the new model to their hearts and the sales success proved its creators right.
