The car quartet as a playful approach to car technology
Generations of (predominantly young) car enthusiasts have gained their car knowledge mainly or partly from car quartets. This was an inexpensive (and fun) approach at a time when there was neither the Internet nor inexpensive anthologies.
The car quartets documented basic technical data and illustrated the vehicles. The most powerful vehicles were the heroes of the car quartet scene. The Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.9 liter was almost unbeatable in the illustrated 1968 quartet. Countless versions and variants of car quartets were printed and distributed, and technical data was often considerably fudged, which only made the eyes of young fans shine even brighter. Today, we can almost speak of a renaissance of the car quartet, as there are even iPhone versions (from Mercedes-Benz, among others).
