Der hier angebotene Connaught A-Type ist einer von nur neun gebauten, historischen Grand-Prix-Rennwagen aus den frühen 50er Jahren. Er wurde für die Weltmeisterschaft von 1952 entwickelt, als diese – wegen fehlender Konkurrenz – nach Formel-2-Regeln ausgetragen wurde.
Gefahren vom Werksteam, dem «Connaught Racing Syndicate», feierte Chassis Nr. A6, neben drei weiteren A-Typ Connaughts, sein Debüt am 15. Juli 1952 beim britischen Grand Prix von Silverstone. Mit Eric Thompson am Steuer, errang er einen beachtlichen 5. Platz und 2 WM-Punkte für Connaught. Im September, beim italienischen GP in Monza, wurde A6 von keinem geringeren als dem aufstrebenden jungen Fahrer Stirling Moss pilotiert.
Nach weiteren Rennen mit dem Werksteam kam A6 neben den Jaguar C-Types in David Murray’s Renn-Stall «Ecurie Ecosse» und wurde dort ab der Saison 1953 sehr erfolgreich eingesetzt. Auf Rennstrecken wie Castle Combe, Dundrod, Goodwood, Silverstone, Snetterton, Thruxton und vielen anderen, wurde er von prominenten Fahrern wie Jimmy Stewart (Jackie Stewarts älterer Bruder) und Ian Stewart gefahren. In zwei Jahren soll A6 mit Ecurie Ecosse an etwa 30 Rennen teilgenommen haben. In den Saisons 1955 und 1956 wurde das Rennauto von den Holt Brüdern wiederum erfolgreich eingesetzt, bevor es schliesslich eingelagert wurde. Der Connaught A6 war 33 Jahre lang nicht mehr auf einer Rennstrecke zu sehen, bis er 1989 von Bob Burrell gekauft, komplett neu aufgebaut und fortan von ihm in nationalen Rennen eingesetzt wurde.
Im Jahr 2005 fand A6 einen neuen Besitzer und wurde von JD Classics in Original-Spezifikationen nochmals komplett neu aufgebaut. Danach war er mehrfach auf Rennstrecken zu sehen, beispielsweise beim Goodwood Revival mit Chris Buncombe am Steuer, beim Monaco Historique Grand Prix und Silverstone Classic GP.
Den Weg in die Schweiz fand dieser Connaught A-Type im Jahr 2019, wo u.a. der Motor und das Getriebe komplett revidiert und nochmals über CHF 100'000.- investiert wurden, bevor er unter anderem am Jim Clark Revival in Hockenheim, am Nürburgring Classic und in diversen Bergrennen eingesetzt wurde. Dieser sehr seltene und historische Grand-Prix-Rennwagen, der in der Zeit von Sir Stirling Moss, dem «Connaught Racing Syndicate» und Ecurie Ecosse gefahren wurde, befindet sich, mit FiA HTP Papieren und FIVA Identity Card, in wunderschönem, top gepflegtem Sammlerzustand und ist sofort einsatzbereit. Ein Notizbuch mit Eintragungen von Ecurie Ecosse ab 1953 und Bob Burrel bis in die 90er Jahre, die dokumentierte Renn-Historie und weitere Unterlagen sind vorhanden. Ebenso viele Ersatz- und Motorenteile wie Magnesium-Ersatzräder, Motorenblöcke, Zylinderköpfe etc., ein Werkstattwagen inkl. Spezialwerkzeug, Schnellheber und vieles mehr.

The Connaught A-Type offered here is one of only nine historic Grand Prix racing cars built in the early 1950s. It was developed for the 1952 World Championship, which was held under Formula 2 rules due to a lack of competition.
Driven by the factory team, the “Connaught Racing Syndicate,” chassis no. A6, along with three other A-type Connaughts, made its debut on July 15, 1952, at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. With Eric Thompson at the wheel, it achieved a remarkable 5th place and 2 World Championship points for Connaught. In September, at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, A6 was driven by none other than the up-and-coming young driver Stirling Moss.
After further races with the factory team, A6 joined the Jaguar C-Types in David Murray's racing team, Ecurie Ecosse, where it was used very successfully from the 1953 season onwards. On race tracks such as Castle Combe, Dundrod, Goodwood, Silverstone, Snetterton, Thruxton, and many others, it was driven by prominent drivers such as Jimmy Stewart (Jackie Stewart's older brother) and Ian Stewart. In two years, A6 is said to have participated in about 30 races with Ecurie Ecosse. In the 1955 and 1956 seasons, the race car was again successfully used by the Holt brothers before it was finally put into storage. The Connaught A6 was not seen on a race track for 33 years until it was purchased by Bob Burrell in 1989, completely rebuilt, and subsequently used by him in national races.
In 2005, the A6 found a new owner and was completely rebuilt to original specifications by JD Classics. It was then seen on race tracks on several occasions, for example at the Goodwood Revival with Chris Buncombe at the wheel, at the Monaco Historique Grand Prix, and at the Silverstone Classic GP.
This Connaught A-Type found its way to Switzerland in 2019, where the engine and transmission were completely overhauled and another CHF 100,000 was invested before it was used at the Jim Clark Revival in Hockenheim, the Nürburgring Classic, and various hill climbs, among other events. This very rare and historic Grand Prix racing car, which was driven in the era of Sir Stirling Moss, the Connaught Racing Syndicate, and Ecurie Ecosse, comes with FiA HTP papers and a FIVA identity card. It is in beautiful, well-maintained collector's condition and is ready for immediate use. A notebook with entries from Ecurie Ecosse from 1953 and Bob Burrel up to the 1990s, the documented racing history, and other documents are available. There are also many spare parts and engine parts such as magnesium spare wheels, engine blocks, cylinder heads, etc., a workshop trolley including special tools, quick lifts, and much more.
