What you could have bought in 2025 for 30k
In 2025, around 4900 vehicles were offered at the auctions we observed and around three quarters of them were successfully sold for a total of around EUR 1.27 billion or CHF 1.19 billion. The records and the shifted million-euro values are usually cause for discussion, but many interesting cars were also sold at a "reasonable" price range. To prove this, we have extracted 14 cars from the Zwischengas auction database that all found a new owner for around EUR/CHF 30,000 in 2025. The variety is great.
For an Aston Martin DB7 Vantage from 2002, which was auctioned by Oldtimer Galerie Toffen, EUR 32,659 (CHF 30,240) was enough to enter the 12-cylinder club.
For a similar amount of money, EUR 32,344 or CHF 30,375 to be precise, you could also buy a 1960 MGA with classic right-hand drive from Iconic in Silverstone.
The elegant and classic blue Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC from 1990 went for EUR 32,200 or CHF 29,946 at the Grumer Granner auction at Classic Expo Salzburg.
EUR 31,920 or CHF 30,240 had to be invested for a 1949 MG TC at the Broad Arrows auction in San Francisco.
Coupé elegance in the form of a 1981 BMW 635 CSi was available at the Oldtimer Galerie in Toffen for EUR 31,450 or CHF 29,120.
For fans of Franco-Italian cars, on the other hand, the 1967 Peugeot 404 convertible for EUR 31,050 or CHF 29,187 at Bonhams in Paris might have been a good candidate.
Artcurial sold a VW 1100 from 1950 for just EUR 30,922 or CHF 29,067 at the Rétromobile, although the Beetle still looked like a bit of work.
Those in need of more horsepower and enough space for a whole family might be happy with the 1964 Jaguar MK II 3.8 , which was sold at Artcurial for EUR 30,420 or CHF 28,291.
Cabin scooters have become expensive, even if prices have calmed down again somewhat. After all, EUR 29,260 or CHF 27,720 was needed to buy a 1957 BMW Isetta 300 from Broad Arrow in San Francisco.
In the 1970s, the manufacturer claimed that the Citroën SM had no rival. This is probably no longer entirely true in the classic car market, otherwise the 1973 example that Gooding sold at the Amelia Island auction would have cost more than EUR 28,851 or CHF 27,597.
The left-hand drive orange Meyers Manx Dune Buggy from 1968, which changed hands for just EUR 30,791 or CHF 28,721 at Iconic's Supercar Fest, was a good value.
Rare and sought-after is the Lotus Elite , a coupé from the first series of 1962, which found its way into a new garage for a reasonable EUR 29,095 or CHF 27,071 at the Bonhams auction at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Really old, i.e. 124 years old, was the Clément Type C Voiturette from 1901 , which Bonhams sold in Paris for EUR 28,750 or CHF 27,025.
And for EUR 28,215 or CHF 26,235, you could get your hands on one of the "hot hatches" of the nineties. Iconic Auctioneers sold the much-loved 1991 Fiat Uno Turbo i.e. Mk2 at the NEC Classic Motor Show.
This was just a small selection of the hundreds of cars that changed hands at auctions in the EUR/CHF 30,000 range in 2025. The selection is primarily intended to show the variety offered by a budget of this size.
