The "no-gos" when advertising a vehicle (mishaps that we see time and again)
Anyone who repeatedly looks at vehicle advertisements on the Internet will occasionally stumble across mishaps that are difficult to understand and are unlikely to promote sales. We have summarized some of these classic "mistakes" when advertising.
Firstly, there are the (often sales-decisive) photos, where you can get a lot wrong ...
- Photographing a dirty, rain-soaked, unkempt or untidy car
- Too much background and surroundings, main thing (car) not clearly visible
- Publish immediately recognizable old/false photos or a wildly thrown together photo collection that is not from a "single source"; photos of the car that do not correspond to the sales condition (e.g. other wheels) should also be avoided
- Backlit photos or underground parking garage photos in the dark in which hardly anything is recognizable
- Missing views of the interior and engine as well as other relevant details
- Interior photographed through the closed side window (reflections)
- All high (portrait format) and/or pictures taken with a wide angle (cars look better with longer focal lengths)
- Accessories not belonging to the car (e.g. jumper cables in the trunk, tires in the interior, etc.) also photographed
The Opel Omega picture (above) actually comes from a real sales advertisement. But you can also do too much of a good thing with photos. If the pictures are too beautiful, prospective buyers sometimes wonder whether they are actually of the vehicle for sale.
But you can also get the description wrong if you're not careful ...
- Incorrect vehicle descriptions
- Clearly incorrect information (year of manufacture, performance, etc.)
- Descriptions that are too long and not relevant, too much babble with platitudes
- Too much emphasis on personal taste (e.g. "fantastic color combination")
- Lack of important information such as relevant accessories, TÜV/MFK, deviations from the original configuration, vehicle condition
- Too many spelling mistakes, which can lead to a loss of trust
The following applies: A vehicle advertisement is documentation with which the prospective buyer wants to decide as efficiently and accurately as possible whether the car is suitable for them.
Can you think of any other mishaps that you have noticed? Just comment and add to them, we can all learn from them ...
