It's one of those parts that you always see and yet never really see: the hood. While driving, it is almost always unconsciously in view without actually paying attention to it. When you look at it from the outside, it is just one of many sheet metal parts. And when you're wrenching, with it permanently over your head, you don't pay any attention to it at all.
Admittedly, there isn't much to see on many cars either. On the Ford Sierra, for example, it is little more than a simple rectangle.
