You have to do everything yourself - Zwischengas wishes you a happy Easter
04/20/2025
The first full moon of spring has passed - everyone is painting eggs; the Kruger is painting toy cars. Well, they are sprayed more than painted. And I don't just do it at Easter, but all year round.
I have a weakness for the charmingly simple Matchbox models from the late fifties and early sixties. I was particularly taken with the Citroën DS 19 with the number 66, so much so that I have amassed 14 of them over the years. But at some point, I found the bright yellow color a little too monotonous.
Unfortunately, Lesney never thought it necessary to paint the Citroën in other combinations during the three years it was built. Yet there were so many beautiful colors for the DS and ID: Bleu Monte Carlo, Vert Mélèze, Marron Glacé, Absinthe, Capucine or the not quite contemporary but very elegant Rouge Cornaline for the Matchbox model.
Fortunately, only three of my yellow goddesses were in really good condition. The rest were moderately or heavily worn. So I started restoring them - just as they could have come from the factory in Hackney, but deliberately not to original specification. Otherwise someone might interpret that as a fake.
That's why, almost 60 years after production stopped, I started to make up for what Leslie Smith and Jack Odell once failed to do. But how do I get back on track for Easter now? Something about "goddess" and "resurrection" ... oh, let's not go there.
